What is Equity?

Equity is the fair distribution of opportunities, power and resources to meet the needs of all people regardless of age, ability, gender, income, education level, culture or background. This means providing support based on an individual's level of need instead of providing everyone the same amount of support.

Governments traditionally focus on providing equal services to all residents. In contrast, an equity lens considers how services and resources can be distributed to those who need them the most.

BCHC's VISION & MISSION

Vision:
BC communities continually create, improve and integrate social, cultural, environmental and economic assets that support health, well-being and the capacity to realize their fullest potential.

Mission: To promote the healthy communities approach, offering a shared platform for dialogue, collaboration, learning and action.

Equity

What is Equity? Equity involves the practical application of resources. It is context-specific, and policies will differ depending on the assets and inequities of each community.

Engagement

Community engagement is a process, not a project. It's about inviting community members into the decision-making process to access, plan, implement and evaluate solutions that affect their daily livers and environments

Evaluation

Evaluation is based on two over-arching questions: 1. What capacity-building changes have resulted from PlanH initiatives; and 2. What are the strengths and areas of improvement for the PlanH program?
